WILLAMETTE RIVER ADVOCACY

Ringleader wins ASLA Tom McCall Award

October 30, 2018

The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) has announced the winners of its 2018 Recognition Awards. Selected as winner of the Tom McCall Award is our intrepid leader, Willie Levenson! Major kudos to our Captain!

ASLA stated, “With his leadership, Willie Levenson and HAP set out to raise awareness of the river and ultimately inspire ‘a City in love with its river,’ leading to widespread stewardship of our largest natural resource. It is through his creative energy, clear vision, and tireless efforts that HAP has connected so many Portlanders to the river over the eight years since he began his river journey.”

Willie was blown away with the news and commented, “It's an honor to be recognized by ASLA. We are a true multi-team effort. HAP board member Mike Faha of Team Greenworks developed renderings that helped sell Poet's Beach and Audrey McCall Beach to the city. Team MIG's Lauren Schmidt and Ryan Mottao's reimagining of the Kevin Duckworth Dock captured the city's imagination for this upcoming swimming hole in downtown Portland. The entire ASLA community supports HAP by educating the public and their clients about the deep value of having a connection to our river – channeling their passion in the same way as HAP.”
